I did a demonstration at the Frankfort Art Show last weekend. I think I rambled and talked about process and inspiration more than actually carving. Well … this is the bird that I started. It’s a Dark-eyed Junco. This bird arrives in Indiana to show the sign that Winter is coming. Sometimes I even see them in October. Not this year though.

This bird is carved from pine, painted in milk paint, and finished with a pine stain.

I have to tell you. Sitting in the woods I grew up in is still a treat. I love seeing the leaves turn yellow and drop.

It’s different these days … as a kid it seemed to take forever to get back to the creek. We’d stop and build forts along the way and never get to the destination. Here’s to something new.
